Chart-topping band Maroon 5 take to Thanyapura’s tennis courts for a spot of holiday fitness

Maroon 5Hollywood superstars Maroon 5 flocked to Thanyapura – Phuket‘s leading sports facility – for a bit of downtime in between concerts.

James Valentine, Maroon 5’s guitarist, graced Thanyapura’s tennis courts over the weekend for a spot of practice and a few friendly matches with the Spin and Slice Team.

Timo Sivapruksa, of Spin and Slice, said: “It was such a surprise to see Maroon 5 playing on our tennis courts.

“James Valentine was such a nice guy and played tennis with several people over the weekend. At first, we didn’t even know who he was so I think he felt quite comfortable knowing that he could enjoy his holiday without being crowded by fans. He came back three days in a row, so we know he enjoyed using the facilities and his time in Phuket!”

Maroon 5, who reign from Los Angeles, California, are a well-known pop-rock band. They have had a series of number one singles since they first formed in 1994. Some of their most famous hits include Payphone, She Will Be Loved, This Love and Moves Like Jagger.

The band, which has six members (Adam Levine, James Valentine, Jesse Carmichael, PJ Morton, Matt Flynn and Mickey Madden) has now left Phuket for a series of concerts around Asia, including two sold out gigs in Bangkok next week and others in Taiwan and Singapore.

Thanyapura’s swimming facilities include a six tennis courts, 50m Olympic competition pool, a 25m training and teaching pool, Omega Track start blocks, a Daktronics timing system and scoreboard, an underwater video analysis window, ozone filtration and sports science services.

The world class facilities have attracted renowned sporting stars including World No 2 Maria Sharapova, former Tour de France winner Cadel Evans, and Formula 1 drivers Jenson Button, Marcus Ericsson and Carlos Sainz over the past few years.
