Sudaporn “Lek” Thongpua. I have two brothers and all our first names start with an ‘S’. My Dad jokes that I am named after one of his old girlfriends.
I’m Thanyapura’s Entertainment Officer, and a Fitness Instructor here. I like to see people to have fun while they exercise, so that they forget that they’re exercising because they’re having fun! That’s what I want!
Baan Sai Thong, in Mukdahan Province in Thailand’s North East, right beside the Mekong River. We’re very lucky because many of the villages around get flooded in the rainy season, but our village never gets flooded.
How long have you been working at Thanyapura?
I’ve been working here for more than 4 years. When I started here only the school was open and there was almost nothing else here – we just had a prefab building for our offices, and the swimming pool!
What motivates you?
The guests here, my colleagues, all the people here and Thanyapura itself make me want to come work. This is such a great place, I always tell people that we have the freshest air in Phuket! It could be real, I think it’s because we have so many trees and mountains around here.
What do you like to do in your time off?
I love to go to the beach – my favourite beach is Laem Singh, and I like lying in the sun and swimming. And I would love to try skydiving! A few years ago I went paragliding from the top of the hill at Nai Harn beach. I would say we flew for about five minutes, I loved it.
What’s your favourite type of music?
Ummm… Bruno Mars, and some Thai pop groups.
What’s your favourite place to eat in Phuket?
My boyfriend and I always try to check out new places, new restaurants. Last week we wanted steak and ended up at the Brasserie in Phuket Town. It was really good, but it was one of our most expensive meals ever.
What would you like to be doing in 10 years?
I want to be a the best yoga instructor in the world. And the best Zumba instructor too! In August I’m going away for three weeks for a special Yoga instructor course on Koh Pha Ngan with teachers from a yoga school in Bali. It will be my first time in Koh Pha Ngan and I’m really looking forward to it, I cant wait.
Who is the most inspiring person you have met at Thanyapura?
Our club manager Chris Weeks, I really like him. Chris is an expert in multi-sport training, he’s really funny, he works really hard, and he never says no to me [laughs].
Where in the world would you like to visit, and why?
Australia, because Australian people are so nice and friendly all the time! And for the scenery, for the whole place. I have a best friend who used to live in Phuket and they had to move back to Perth, so I want to go to see them. They are like my second family!
