March Updates – Aquatics

March saw the Marseille swim team from France visit us for a month, we’re editing video up now documenting their stay which will be posted very shortly on our blog. Below is a nice highlight of Florent Manoudou the London Gold Medalist in the 50m sprint and the current World Record holder throwing down a quick 50 in 22 seconds being chased by our drone. This is only 1 second off the world record and he started from the wall with no jump start!

The new Thanyapura/PIA swim team will be burning up the lanes this month, traveling to the ISB swim meet in Bangkok on 7-8 March. We are also hosting the Rocket Science Sports swim meet here at our facilities on the 27th to 29th of March, so we are trying to get as big a squad as we can at this meet to represent Thanyapura and PIA. Entry fee is 1500 THB, but is free for Thanyapura/PIA swimmers!

We’re seeing some massive results for the team, with a 4th place team showing at the Shrewsbury meet and plenty of personal best times achieved. Our ambassadors Nok and Ploy took home golds at the Martin’s Cup in Bangkok, and Nok went under the Olympic Games qualifying time for the 1500 free!

Ploy, Nok, and Golf are set to qualify in the first week of March to represent Thailand for the SEA Games. We are looking forward to seeing them continue to represent Thanyapura at the highest possible level.

We announced the name change from “Silverfinz” to Thanyapura/PIA last month in our effort to align the swim team name with the triathlon and tennis teams and to increase the Phuket International Academy’s involvement with the sport teams. Logo redesign is currently ongoing, and from there we will produce new team gear, caps, etc.

The 2nd leg of the Thanyapura Swim League was held on the 28th of February utilizing our new electronic timing system in the 25-meter pool. There were 100 participants, including 30 representing the Thanyapura/PIA swim team. The final leg of the Swim League will be held in June.

Meanwhile, squad swims will begin to follow holiday schedules. Gold squad will start in the mornings at 6.30 instead of 5.30 (except for Saturdays), and Silver and L7 squads will run on holiday camp schedule.
